Pench Safari Booking (2026): Prices, Gates and Timings : The Complete Guide

6 min read

Pench safari booking confuses first-timers more than any other tiger reserve in India, and there is a simple reason: Pench is two parks, in two states, with two separate booking systems. Get the state wrong and your permit is useless. This guide covers the 2026 gypsy prices for both Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, every gate, the official booking portals, timings, and the agent scams to avoid.

Why Pench Safari Booking Confuses Everyone

Pench Tiger Reserve straddles the Madhya Pradesh–Maharashtra border. The MP side (Pench National Park, MP) and the Maharashtra side (Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra) are administered separately, with separate permits, separate prices, and separate booking websites. A permit for Turia gate (MP) will not get you into Sillari gate (Maharashtra).

This is also the forest that inspired Kipling’s Jungle Book — the Seeonee hills are these hills. And it was home to Collarwali, the legendary tigress who raised 29 cubs, a record for any wild tigress.

Pench Safari Price 2026: What a Gypsy Costs

Prices below are per gypsy (seats 6), from current 2026 booking-portal listings. Forest department rates can change, so confirm on the official portal before paying.

Madhya Pradesh — core zones (Turia, Karmajhiri, Jamtara)

  • Indian nationals: ₹10,100/gypsy weekdays, ₹10,700 weekends (approx $106 / $112)
  • Foreign nationals: ₹13,500 weekdays, ₹14,700 weekends (approx $142 / $154)

Madhya Pradesh — buffer zones (Khawasa, Khumbhpani, Masurnala, Rukhad, Teliya)

  • Indian nationals: ₹8,500/gypsy (approx $89)
  • Foreign nationals: ₹9,300/gypsy (approx $98)

Maharashtra — all zones (Sillari, Chorbahuli, Kolitmara, Khubala, Khursapar, Surewani)

  • Indian nationals: ₹7,200/gypsy weekdays, ₹7,700 weekends (approx $76 / $81)
  • Foreign nationals: ₹8,000 weekdays, ₹8,500 weekends (approx $84 / $89)

Two things stand out. First, Maharashtra is meaningfully cheaper than MP, with the same price for core and buffer. Second, weekends cost more on both sides — a Tuesday safari and a Saturday safari are different products at different prices. If your dates are flexible, go midweek. Pench Gates Explained: Which One to Choose

Madhya Pradesh gates. Turia is the flagship — best-known, most resorts nearby, and the first gate to sell out on weekends and holidays. Karmajhiri and Jamtara are strong alternatives with the same core-forest quality and far less booking pressure.

Maharashtra gates. Sillari is the most convenient, sitting right on the Nagpur–Seoni highway with accommodation options around it. Chorbahuli, Kolitmara, Khubala and Khursapar spread the load; all run the same Maharashtra pricing.

Which gate to pick for your Pench safari booking? If this is your first Pench trip and dates are fixed, book Turia the moment permits open. If Turia is full, take Karmajhiri (MP) or Sillari (Maharashtra) without hesitation — the forest is continuous and tigers do not read gate boards.

How to Book Pench Safari Online: The Two Portals

Madhya Pradesh side: book on the MP Forest Department’s official safari booking portal. Register with your mobile number (OTP verification), log in, choose full vehicle or single seat, pick your date, and select gate and session from the live availability chart. Carry the same ID you booked with — forest officials check it at the gate, and the primary booking contact must be in the vehicle.

Maharashtra side: book at mahaecotourism.gov.in, the official Maharashtra ecotourism portal, which handles Sillari, Chorbahuli and the other Maharashtra gates.

Book directly on these two portals. Dozens of private sites with official-sounding names (pench-safari-booking-this, official-pench-that) are travel agencies reselling permits at a markup — that is exactly what the “pench safari booking official website” keyword cluster is warning you about.

Pench Safari Timings and Season

The park is open roughly October to June, closed in the monsoon. Morning safaris run approximately 6:30–10:30 AM and evening safaris 2:30–6:00 PM, with exact timings shifting by season. Note that Sillari gate stays closed on Wednesdays (both sessions), so plan around it.

The best months for tiger sightings are March to May, when animals visit water bodies in the heat — 40°C afternoons are normal, so carry water and a cap. November to February gives the most pleasant weather.

How Early to Book: The Honest Answer

For Turia gate on a weekend or holiday, book the moment the window opens — permits go first here, before every other gate. Midweek dates and buffer zones (Khawasa, Rukhad, Teliya) can often be booked much closer to the travel date. Maharashtra gates generally have better last-minute availability than MP.

Pench vs Kanha vs Bandhavgarh: Where Does Pench Fit?

Pench is the value pick of Central India: cheaper permits than Kanha or Bandhavgarh, fewer crowds than either, and a genuine chance at tigers, leopards, dhole and sloth bear in one drive. Kanha has the classic meadow-and-sal postcard landscape; Bandhavgarh has the highest tiger density. We compared the two in detail in our Kanha vs Bandhavgarh guide — Pench pairs beautifully with either as a second park on the same trip.

Pench Safari Booking Scams to Avoid

  • Fake “official” websites. Only the MP Forest Department portal and mahaecotourism.gov.in issue permits. Everything else is a reseller.
  • “Guaranteed” Turia permits at a premium. Agents cannot create permits that do not exist; they are either reselling at a markup or booking you into a buffer zone while charging core prices.
  • Full advance payment to individuals. Pay on the portal, or to a registered operator with a proper invoice — never to a personal UPI ID from a classified ad.
  • No ID, no entry. Whoever books must travel with the original ID used at booking. Permits are non-transferable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the official website for Pench safari booking?

There are two: the MP Forest Department’s safari booking portal for the Madhya Pradesh gates (Turia, Karmajhiri, Jamtara and buffers), and mahaecotourism.gov.in for the Maharashtra gates (Sillari, Chorbahuli and others). Both issue permits directly.

How much does a Pench safari cost in 2026?

A private gypsy (6 seats) in MP core zones costs ₹10,100–₹10,700 for Indians and ₹13,500–₹14,700 for foreign nationals. MP buffer zones are ₹8,500/₹9,300. Maharashtra zones are ₹7,200–₹7,700 for Indians and ₹8,000–₹8,500 for foreigners.

Which is the best gate in Pench for tiger sightings?

Turia (MP) is the most famous and sells out first, but tigers move across the whole landscape. Karmajhiri and Sillari regularly produce excellent sightings with far less booking pressure.

Can I cancel a Pench safari booking?

Cancellation rules are set by each forest department and shown on the portal at booking. Read them before paying — peak-season permits are typically the strictest.

Is one day enough for Pench?

Two safaris (one morning, one evening) is the minimum that does the park justice. Three to four safaris across two days is the sweet spot for a real chance at a tiger.

When should I book for Diwali/Christmas week?

The day permits open. Holiday weeks sell out Turia first, then the other MP core gates. Maharashtra gates are your backup plan, not your first choice, in peak season.
