Jim Corbett Safari Booking 2026: Zones, Prices and the Official Portal

10 min read

Jim Corbett safari booking should be simple. Pick a date, book a jeep, show up at the gate. In practice it confuses more first-time visitors than any other reserve in India.

Six tourism zones, opening on two different dates. One famous zone that does not allow day-visit jeeps at all. And dozens of lookalike websites around the single official one, happy to take your money first.

This guide untangles all of it: zones and seasons, real 2026 prices, the official portal step by step, the new season rules, and the scams that catch people every month.

Bijrani, the zone most visitors ask for, reopened on October 15. If a Corbett trip is on your list, your Jim Corbett safari booking starts here.

Prices are per jeep for up to six people, not per person, and every Corbett safari booking is tied to the zone you choose. Confirm the figures on the official portal before you pay, because tariffs get revised without much notice.

The Six Zones, and Why Your Choice Matters

Every Jim Corbett safari booking names one zone, and a permit for one zone cannot be used in another.

Bijrani is the headline act, and the most requested Jim Corbett safari booking of all. Sal forest, wide grasslands called chaurs, the strongest all-round tiger record of any day-visit zone. Entered through Amdanda gate, minutes from Ramnagar, it sells out first. Our separate Bijrani safari zone guide covers its timings and record in detail.

Dhikala is the legendary name, and the one that trips people up. Its Ramganga grasslands are unmatched for elephants, but day visitors cannot take a jeep in. You ride the canter, a 16-seat open bus, or stay at a forest rest house inside the zone, where jeeps come with the stay. It opens a month later than Bijrani, on November 15.

Jhirna stays open all year, monsoon included, with a strong record for sloth bears and elephants alongside tigers. Outside the main season, a Jim Corbett safari booking in Jhirna is probably your only route in, and better than its understudy reputation suggests.

Dhela also runs all year, sharing the southern forest with Jhirna. Quieter than its neighbour, it is a sound Corbett safari booking when Jhirna permits have gone.

Durgadevi is the hill zone in the north-east. Longer drives, denser forest, superb birding, mahseer pools on the Ramganga. Lower tiger odds than Bijrani. The landscape is the reward.

Garjiya is the newest of the six, near Ramnagar and the Kosi river, with a season matching Bijrani’s. Its permits survive a little longer on busy weekends.

Jim Corbett Safari Prices 2026: What a Jeep Actually Costs

A Jim Corbett safari booking has three parts, and knowing them protects you from most overcharging: the permit (the forest department’s entry fee), the vehicle (the registered gypsy), and the guide (mandatory, rides with you). Nothing else is compulsory.

ZonePermit (Indian)VehicleGuideTotal per jeep
BijraniRs 3,380Rs 2,700Rs 1,000Rs 7,080 (about $74)
JhirnaRs 3,380Rs 3,000Rs 1,000Rs 7,380
DhelaRs 3,380Rs 3,000Rs 1,000Rs 7,380
DurgadeviRs 3,380Rs 3,000Rs 1,000Rs 7,380
GarjiyaRs 3,380Rs 2,700 to 3,000Rs 1,000Rs 7,080 to 7,380

Foreign nationals pay a permit of Rs 6,680 instead of Rs 3,380, so Rs 10,380 per jeep in Bijrani (about $109) and Rs 10,680 in the other jeep zones. One permit covers up to six people, including two children under 12.

Two rate rules catch families out. Indian senior citizens get Rs 250 off per person and students aged 12 to 18 get Rs 375 off, with ID. If even one foreign national is on the permit, foreign rates apply to everyone on it. OCI and SAARC nationals pay Indian rates.

The Dhikala canter runs at Rs 1,500 plus 18 per cent GST per seat for Indians, and Rs 3,000 plus GST for foreign nationals, four seats maximum per booking. When you book a Corbett safari by canter, that per-seat price is the whole story.

One honest warning. Resorts and agents quote package rates for a Jim Corbett safari booking that bundle the jeep with transfers, meals or margin, sometimes below the official figure, often well above it. Both extremes deserve suspicion. The table above is your anchor, and our tiger safari cost guide breaks down safari costs across India’s parks.

How to Book on the Official Portal

Every Jim Corbett safari booking, jeep, canter or forest rest house, goes through one official channel: corbettgov.org, which sends you to its portal at booking.corbettgov.org. The reserve states this on its home page because the fake-site problem is that serious.

Corbett safari booking windows differ by nationality. Jeep permits and rest house stays open 45 days ahead for Indians, 90 days for foreign nationals. Canter bookings open 30 days ahead. New slots release in batches, typically around 10 AM, so be logged in then for a weekend date.

The booking itself runs like this:

  1. Choose zone, date, and the morning or afternoon slot.
  2. Enter every visitor’s details exactly as on their ID. Since September 22, 2026, the group leader must also upload the front and back of a valid ID.
  3. Your gypsy is allotted automatically; you can change it within eight hours.
  4. Pay using a WhatsApp-enabled mobile number, verified with a one-time code.
  5. Download the e-ticket with its QR code, and print it. Your Jim Corbett safari booking is only complete once that printout and your original ID are in your bag.

Expect a compulsory short wait on the visitor-details page; refreshing does not speed it up. Same-day bookings close at 6:30 AM and 4:00 PM. Permits are non-refundable, non-transferable, and name the visitors: a name not in the jeep loses its seat.

New Rules for the 2026-27 Season

A Jim Corbett safari booking this season comes with rules that did not exist a few years ago, most flowing from the Supreme Court’s November 2025 judgment on the reserve.

Your phone stays at the gate. Phones are deposited before you enter, and the rule covers guides, drivers and staff too. Proper cameras, including DSLRs, are still allowed. Plan your photography around a camera, not a handset.

There is no night tourism. It is banned outright, and traffic through the core forest is not permitted between dusk and dawn except for emergencies. The reserve and its eco-sensitive zone are also being treated as silence zones.

Paper still matters. Carry the printed e-ticket and the original ID you booked with. Digital copies on a phone you have just surrendered at the gate will not help you.

One clarification, because headlines have muddied it. The court’s ban on “tiger safari” in core habitat targets new safari-park facilities inside the forest, not regulated jeep safaris. A Jim Corbett safari in Bijrani or Jhirna runs this season exactly as it should, and our ranking of India’s best tiger safari parks shows where Corbett sits among them.

Bijrani vs Dhikala: The Choice Most Visitors Face

If your trip falls between mid-October and mid-November, there is no choice to make. Dhikala is closed, and Bijrani is the finest day safari in the park. Make that Corbett safari booking the day your window opens.

Later in the season, it depends on what you want. Bijrani gives you a private jeep, morning mist on the chaurs, the better tiger odds per drive. Dhikala gives you scale: huge grasslands, big elephant herds, the river, but from a shared canter seat unless you have secured a forest rest house night, the hardest booking in Corbett.

With one trip and three days, take two Bijrani mornings and, if dates allow, one Dhikala canter for the landscape. When you book a Jim Corbett safari across two zones like this, the contrast is the point. The Bijrani guide on this site goes deeper on gates and timings.

Booking Scams to Avoid

Corbett attracts more Jim Corbett safari booking fraud than any other Indian reserve, simply because demand is so large. The patterns repeat every season.

Lookalike official sites. Dozens of private sites use official-sounding names. Only corbettgov.org books you directly with the reserve. Every other Corbett safari booking site is a reseller, whatever its homepage claims.

Permits that vanish. The reserve’s terms say permits sold through agents who do not declare themselves resellers can be cancelled without a refund. You discover that at the gate, the worst possible moment.

Guaranteed sightings, guaranteed permits. Nobody can guarantee either. A seller promising a confirmed Bijrani permit on a sold-out date is selling you a different zone at core prices, or nothing.

Advance payment to individuals. Pay on the portal, or to a registered operator against an invoice. Never to a personal payment ID from a classified ad or social media message.

When to Book Your Jim Corbett Safari, and How Many Days You Need

For a Bijrani weekend between December and March, be on the portal the morning your 45-day window opens. Those permits go within hours. Weekdays, Jhirna and Dhela carry far less pressure, and the year-round zones are your safety net when the headline zones are gone.

On season: October and November bring green forest and pleasant mornings. December and January are cold and misty, with sightings improving as the grass dies back. March to June is hot, and when sightings peak around water. The core zones close with the monsoon at the end of June, which is why a monsoon Jim Corbett safari booking means Jhirna or Dhela by definition.

Give Corbett three days and four safaris at minimum. One safari is a lottery ticket; four drives across two zones turns luck into reasonable odds. On a longer northern circuit, our North India destinations page shows how Corbett pairs with the Himalayan routes.
